Waskasoo Park Special Gathering Places (Red Deer)

waskasoo_20090128_0012ISL was retained to analyze four of the City of Red Deer’s special gathering places, within the Waskasoo Park System: Heritage Ranch, Bower Ponds, Three Mile Bend and River Bend.

The report had three major objectives: review and evaluate usage in order to determine whether parks are meeting the needs of park users; investigate potential alternative use to reflect community needs, demographics, and leisure trends; and assess the environmental impact of future park use plans.

Public input activities were a central part of the study process and included: stakeholder interviews; a Co-Design Workshop, where sketch-artists and community members developed preliminary design ideas; the Discovery Tour, a multimedia presentation of proposed development options; and a public open house.

Community Development Consultants and ISL created business case scenarios based on these initial ideas and a recommended business case and a development master plan was developed for each Special Gathering Place.

Detailed capital and operational costs, an overall Master Plan and implementation schedule were included in the final report.

Special Gathering Places study and report was approved by City Council January 2006. Location

ISL Engineering and Land Services (ISL) is proud to be among Canada’s 30 most environmentally-conscious employers. It is the second time ISL has been on this list.

The list of Canada’s “Green 30” organizations, based on employee perceptions about their record on environmental stewardship, was released today by Aon Hewitt. The list was developed based on employee responses to questions in the 2011 Best Small and Medium Employers in Canada survey.  Over 130,000 employees at more than 250 organizations were asked about their employer’s environmental practices.  ISL ranked within the top 30 companies whose employees have a positive perception of their efforts.
