Located about 105 kilometres west of High Level, the Dene Tha' First Nation community of Chateh (population 1500) had endured several years of boil water advisories.
ISL designed a treatment plant to effectively and efficiently treat the complex source water issues, while meeting client needs for operability, less chemicals and reduced lifecycle costs in the remote location.
The Chateh Water Treatment Plant began operating in March 2011, and includes three main process trains: coagulation/flocculation, micro-filtration and nano-filtration.
Notably, the water treatment plant incorporated the first dual-membrane water treatment system for a First Nation in Canada. The plant building uses 62 percent less energy and operates at 65 percent less cost than a comparable building (MNECB energy modelling).
