Lois Hole Memorial Garden
Lois Hole, the former Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, was commemorated with the creation of a memorial garden on the grounds of the Alberta Legislature.
ISL was retained by the Province of Alberta to design the memorial garden, which included a plaza and seating area, a stone garden wall and extensive planting. The design was a collaboration with the Hole family, Workun Garrick Architects and the Province of Alberta.
The plant material was supplied by the Hole family and included a wide variety of species, such as rose, lilac, dogwood, ninebark, mugo pine, juniper and many perennial and annual plants.
The official sod turning took place on September 16, 2005, and construction of the concrete paths, stonework and ironwork took place that same fall. Planting was completed in June 2006. The grand opening was held on July 3, 2006.
