MUNICIPAL SERVICES
building a legacy of excellence

The recent CEA (Consulting Engineers of Alberta) Showcase Awards saw ISL Engineering and Land Services win three awards for the Driftpile Water Treatment Plant and System Upgrade project.

The three awards included:

1. Award of Excellence: Project Management

2. Award of Merit: Sustainable Design

3. Award of Merit: Water Resources, Energy Production

These awards demonstrate ISL's strengths in Project Management, Sustainable Design, and Water Supply, Treatment and Distribution using innovative, leading edge technologies.

Our Environmental Engineering group was retained to design a Water Treatment Plant to provide dependable drinking water following ten years of boil-water advisories. Challenged by an unreliable water source with high organic content, the ISL team designed a Membrane Filtration system.

Delivered on time and under budget, the plant provides water which continuously exceeds the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.

Ongoing operations and maintenance are improved using detailed, graphically enhanced standard operating procedures, innovative 3-D plant model operation screens and manuals, and professional training videos.

Delivering Innovation and Success:

  • Availability of reliable, safe drinking water enhances the economic and social viability of the community
  • Chosen design lowered dependence on chemicals and reduced construction disturbance
  • Membrane Filtration system removes particles and certain molecules up to 10,000 times smaller than a pinpoint
  • Project stakeholders were involved in consultation process and invited to all bi-weekly construction meetings, ensuring project was delivered to the client’s satisfaction
  • First installation of Kinetico® pre-filtration unit in Alberta for municipal use
  • Local First Nation members and equipment played a significant role in construction, thereby contributing to the local economy
  • To enhance understanding and plant operations, an advanced 3-D model of the entire plant was created and incorporated into control screens and detailed manuals
  • hrough construction involvement, advanced training, and standard operating procedures, the existing Water Keeper (Plant Operator) now operates the modern water treatment plant
