About This Project

After successfully developing a new Land Use Bylaw for the Town of Hinton, ISL was further engaged to develop and implement a comprehensive planning policy and development strategy that will result in a new planning framework and land development process in Hinton. Project deliverables will include a new Municipal Development Plan (MDP), an Established Area Plan (EAP), two Area Structure Plans (ASPs), and new Standard Development Agreement materials.

Key to this strategy is the creation of a new planning hierarchy that will be articulated within the MDP. Policy pertaining to redevelopment and infill in the established communities, commercial and industrial areas will be aligned under a single EAP.

Policy and conceptual plans for greenfield development will be organized into a West ASP and East ASP, paving the way for developerled outline plans in both ASP plan areas. The intent of this comprehensive strategy is to continue with Council’s vision to create a planning framework and land development process that promotes growth and supports development initiatives in an organized rational manner, through positive, user-friendly development regulations.
