About this Project

In 2016, the City of Beaumont retained ISL to provide engineering and landscape architecture services for the design of 50 Avenue from 49 Street to 55 Street. This streetscape is the first phase of implementation of the Town of Beaumont’s Downtown Urban Design Concept Plan (DUDCP). The design includes the development of a pedestrian-oriented and aesthetically enhanced street, in line with the types of active frontages planned in the DUDCP. The goal is to have investment in this infrastructure spur redevelopment in the downtown core, while continuing to support current use. The major design principles implemented include: design for pedestrians first, integrate with existing and future land uses, enhance aesthetics and create a sense of place.

A vigorous stakeholder consultation process, including one-on-one meetings with every adjacent landowner at key stages in the design to understand property impacts. The final design provides flexibility to transform into a space that is cohesive with the future mixed-used zoning.

ISL made utility coordination a top priority throughout the project and took control of developing utility line assignments and procuring utility right-of-ways with landowners. All underground utilities and above-ground utility street furniture is integrated into the design.

Due to the elementary school being located in the middle of the project area, ISL met with the school administration and parent council several times to understand the issues and develop options. The options were then showcased at meetings using Unity, an interactive 3D modelling program
