About This Project

ISL provided preliminary design services for the Oceanfront Squamish Development, a 30-hectare brownfield project located south of downtown Squamish and surrounded by sensitive tidal waters.

This oceanfront development integrates industrial, commercial, and residential areas with a municipal park at the peninsula’s tip.

ISL’s role included site planning, servicing, roadway design, site grading, and stormwater and foreshore design. Stormwater management featured hydraulic modeling for onsite distribution scenarios, addressing sea-level rise, and incorporating a stormwater detention pond at the park. This pond functions as an intermediary between the site’s stormwater system and adjacent tidal marshland, ensuring protection of the sensitive habitat.

For the foreshore, ISL applied “Green Shores” principles to enhance intertidal habitat diversity and improve resilience. This included designing a soft beach profile, creating a dynamic foreshore planting plan, and integrating rainwater management and green infrastructure into the park’s design.
