Evaluating Structures for Their Unique Need

ISL understands the important role bridges serve in a community. We have helped municipalities, cities and provincial governments manage their inventories and feel passionately about continuing this support.

Proving its merit, our team of engineers and technologists has inspected over 300 bridges and tested nearly 100 bridges since 2013. Our team conducts visual inspections according to the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) and follows the Alberta Transportation Level 2 Inspection Manual for testing; both widely accepted and adopted methodologies. Whether the bridge is timber, concrete or steel, our professionals evaluate the structure for its unique needs. This tailored approach enables our team to collect the necessary data to identify where each bridge component is within its service life and to determine the optimal strategy for management. Rehabilitation options are evaluated for life cycle costs and risk is assessed using a Monte Carlo Simulation.

Our team is dedicated to constant improvement. We employ the latest in technology, enabling our team to collect more data on elements that typically receive little to no inspection due to access and budget constraints (i.e., bearings, soffits and tall piers/abutments). This translates into more accurate assessments and more value for our clients.
