G.I.T., B.Sc.

What was the path you took to get to where you are today? (School, volunteering, work experience, networking, etc.)

I pursued a major in Geology, complemented by a minor in Hydrogeology in university studies. Throughout my academic career, I proactively enrolled in hydrogeology-focused courses and participated in fieldwork and volunteer initiatives related to environmental and water resource management. My practical experience was further strengthened through involvement with consulting firms and government-led projects, where I developed a solid foundation in groundwater monitoring and technical reporting. Additionally, by actively engaging with professional networks and local geoscience associations, I was able to establish valuable industry connections that ultimately guided me to my current position at ISL.

What skills have you developed since joining ISL?

I have further enhanced my technical field competencies, such as groundwater sampling, water well drilling, and data analysis. In addition, I have advanced my skills in data management, technical reporting, and project coordination. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team has also significantly refined my abilities in professional communication and teamwork.

What has been your favourite project to work on to-date?

One of my favourite projects so far has been assisting with the drilling and installation of monitoring and water-supply wells for small towns. Being part of the process, from site selection and drilling oversight, to testing and data collection has been rewarding because I could see how our work directly helps increase and secure a community’s water supply.

What’s your favourite thing about what you do in your position at ISL?

I enjoy the mix of field and office work. I get to spend time outdoors collecting data and then come back to the office to analyze and interpret it. I also appreciate working with a team of highly talented and driven scientists who are passionate about making projects more sustainable.

What are some of your ISL highlights? (Cool projects, social events, charitable initiatives)

Notable experiences have included involvement in field programs across diverse locations, contributing to multidisciplinary projects, and fostering professional relationships through office luncheons and team-building events. The environment at ISL has proven to be highly conducive to both professional development and personal growth.

What’s one hobby or interest people might not know about you?

Outside of work, I have a passion for collecting, restoring, and investing in timepieces. I enjoy learning the history and mechanics behind different watches, bringing older pieces back to life, and curating a collection that blends craftsmanship and value.

Any advice for students or new grads entering the industry?

My advice is to remain open-minded and willing to learn. Actively seek feedback and be receptive to new approaches, as this accelerates growth and adaptability. Additionally, prioritize networking! cultivating relationships within the profession is not only invaluable for career development but also for finding mentors who can guide you through the early stages of your practice.
