CHUCHUWAYHA HALL REHABILITATION
Transforming a community hall into a modern, accessible, and multifunctional space.
Client: Upper Similkameen Indian Band
Location: Hedley, BC
Project Type: Buildings
About This Project
Built in 1908, Chuchuwayha Hall predated modern building codes and required thoughtful structural upgrades to meet current safety standards while preserving its heritage.
ISL’s scope included schematic design, detailed design development, contract documents, construction services, and field reviews.
After two decades of remaining unused, the project transformed the hall into a modern, accessible, and multifunctional space. Upgrades included structural repairs, new hardwood flooring, an outdoor kitchen with modern appliances, and updated mechanical and electrical systems, as well as sports facilities. The hall now serves as a venue for cultural programs, ceremonies, and educational and sports activities, fostering intergenerational connections and cultural preservation.
