About This Project

Following ISL Engineering’s award winning Crowchild Trail Corridor Study, The City of Calgary Transportation Infrastructure retained ISL to complete a detailed design for the project as per the recommendations. In addition, ISL was retained to manage the tender preparation and construction delivery for the entire improvement plan, including work undertaken by other consultants. ISLs scope included detailed design and construction of roadways, pathways, stormwater management, retaining walls, noise walls, traffic safety structures, guide signs, utility review/relocation, streetlighting, detour/staging, public engagement and plans to accommodate vehicles, cyclists, transit, pedestrians, and landscaping.
ISL drove conversations with multiple City business units to find balanced short term solutions to solve challenges related to constrained ROW, design standards and safety.

ISLs team worked with dedication and commitment to meet City/stakeholder needs with continuous communication. The Transportation Infrastructure PM regularly confirms how improvements are integrated before responding to media. Acknowledging stakeholder perspectives resulted in minimal 311 calls throughout design and construction.

ISLs understanding of detour constraints in design and implementation resulted in compliments (not complaints!) from users. ISLs involvement in preparing the tender package combining design, quantities and technical specifications from multiple entities resulted in one cohesive biddable document.

This was an extremely collaborative project. Graham Construction was the general contractor for the entire project while Associated Engineering and WSP were other consultants. Associated Engineering did three bridges and retaining walls including 10 Ave and Memorial Drive ramps while WSP did one bridge over Bow Trail.
