Valley Line
Southeast LRT
A street-level LRT that connects southeast communities to the core of the City.
Client: City of Edmonton
Location: Edmonton, AB
Project Type: Urban Transportation
About This Project
The Valley Line Southeast is a 13.1-kilometre low-floor light rail transit (LRT) line – the City of Edmonton’s largest infrastructure project and a major step toward its vision for integrated, sustainable urban transportation. Running from Downtown to the southeast Edmonton community of Mill Woods, the line features 11 street-level stops, one elevated station, two elevated guideways, one bridge, and a tunnel, all designed to enhance connectivity with surrounding communities and existing transit and active transportation systems.
ISL, as part of the connected Transit Partnership, served as the Owner’s Engineer on this public-private partnership (P3) project, leading the civil scope. This included design and quality assurance for roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, shared-use paths, bus facilities, and LRT stop integration—many within constrained and heavily urbanized corridors.
ISL’s also supported the integration of sustainable features throughout the corridor, including constructed wetlands, bioswales, low-level LED lighting, and the use of fly ash in concrete.
The Valley Line Southeast creates a vital transportation spine for Edmonton’s future.
