About This Project
The Jack Bagley Park Redevelopment transformed a 1.5-hectare community park in Nanoose Bay into a modern, accessible recreation destination serving residents of all ages and abilities. Guided by extensive stakeholder and public engagement, the project balanced the needs of organized sports, pickleball enthusiasts, casual park users, and the broader community while maximizing recreational opportunities within a constrained site. The completed park features new pickleball, basketball, and tennis courts, upgraded baseball backstops, accessible pathways, parking improvements, a covered picnic area, and a distinctive washroom and storage building that enhances the overall park experience.
ISL served as Prime Consultant, providing public engagement, park planning, landscape architecture, structural engineering, detailed design, and construction administration services. Working closely with Haeccity Studio Architecture, ISL developed a comprehensive redevelopment plan that responded to community priorities while integrating new amenities with the existing park layout. Throughout the project, the team coordinated stakeholder consultation, conceptual and detailed design, cost estimating, implementation planning, accessibility reviews, and contractor support to successfully deliver the revitalized community space.
Design development focused on creating a flexible and inclusive park that could accommodate a wide variety of recreational activities without compromising existing facilities. Through careful site planning, structural assessments, and collaborative design, ISL optimized the use of available space, verified the performance of key sports infrastructure, and delivered a park that will serve the Nanoose Bay community for years to come.

- Solution: ISL completed structural analyses of the baseball and soccer backstop systems, identified overstressed elements within the original soccer backstop design, recommended member upgrades, and reviewed as-built conditions to confirm acceptable structural performance.
