Cumberland Roads and Utilities

Multi-year road and utility renewal program improving infrastructure resilience in Cumberland.

Client: Village of Cumberland

Location: Cumberland, BC

Project Type: Municipal Infrastructure

About This Project

Since 2022, ISL has supported the Village of Cumberland’s ongoing capital infrastructure program through a series of roads and utility renewal projects designed to replace aging assets and improve long-term community resilience. The multi-year program includes roadway reconstruction, watermain installation, sanitary and storm utility upgrades, and strategic infrastructure planning throughout the community.

The 2023 Roads and Utilities Package included full road reconstruction of First Street between Dunsmuir Avenue and Penrith Avenue, comprehensive water, sanitary, and storm utility replacements on Maryport Avenue, and installation of a new watermain along Union Road. The project achieved substantial completion in July 2024.

Maryport Avenue required extensive underground utility renewal to replace aging infrastructure and support future growth. ISL provided design services for new water, sanitary, and storm systems, coordinated with full roadway reconstruction to improve service reliability and road conditions. The Union Road Watermain project established a looped water connection to enhance system redundancy and network performance.

The 2025 Roads and Utilities Package include reconstruction of First Street between Penrith Avenue and Maryport Avenue, sanitary system upgrades, a new watermain installation on Ulverston Road, and approximately 450 metres of sanitary and storm sewer replacement within local laneways. Construction is currently underway, with substantial completion anticipated in 2026.
