Project Profile
Through three years of public consultation, ISL worked with the community to create a park design that integrates into people’s daily activities and provides amenities for all ages.
This project is a continuation of the Dermott District Park Renewal Master Plan, which ISL Engineering and Land Services (ISL) coauthored with the City of Edmonton. After the plan was approved in 2014, ISL was selected to continue design development through to tender administration and manage the project throughout the construction process.
Through three years of public consultation, ISL worked with the community to create a park design that integrates into people’s daily activities and provides amenities for all ages.
The final design enhances the neighbourhood and district, creates a meaningful pedestrian-scale design experience to attract people to the site, provides all-season use, and celebrates public art and heritage.
To ensure that the 7.6 ha site will be resilient and flexible to future needs, ISL incorporated the potential for a future twin arena into the design. We also designed an innovative nature and adventure play space unlike any playground currently in the City.
ISL designed the City’s first nature playground that will engage children in a natural and sensory play experience to tackle nature deficit disorder and encourage environmental stewardship and imagination.
