ISL Expands on Vancouver Island with New Courtenay Office

ISL’s longstanding work in the Comox Valley now has a permanent home.

After several years of successful project delivery, community collaboration, and on-the-ground support in the area, our team is proud to officially recognize Courtenay, British Columbia as ISL’s 17th office location.

The expansion builds on ISL’s Vancouver Island presence established with the opening of our office in Victoria in 2020, followed by Nanaimo in August 2024. Courtenay represents the next step in a long-term vision to provide local expertise and integrated engineering and land services to communities across the Island.

The Courtenay office will be managed by Mike Elliott and will initially be home to a team of four as we expand into the region. Clients will have access to ISL’s multidisciplinary expertise, including:

• Municipal Engineering
• Transportation Engineering
• Structures and Bridges
• Land and Environment Services

Our projects include:

  • Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Pathway, providing detailed design and construction support for a 2.6-kilometre all-ages-and-abilities (AAA) multi-use pathway connecting existing cycling and pedestrian networks through a joint initiative between the Comox Valley Regional District and the Town of Comox.
  • Cumberland Roads and Utilities, delivering ongoing engineering services through the Village’s Master Service Agreement, including roads, utilities, sewer separation, and capital infrastructure improvements that support the community’s long-term growth.
  • Campbellton Sewer System, providing detailed design and engineering services for sewer capacity improvements in Campbell River’s historic Campbellton neighbourhood to address existing infrastructure constraints and accommodate future development.
  • Cousins Avenue Upgrades, delivering detailed design for underground utility renewals, roadway construction, sidewalks, and landscape improvements through Campbell River’s unique “Tin-Town” neighbourhood, supporting both infrastructure renewal and community growth.
  • Village of Cumberland Aerial Mapping, delivering high-resolution aerial mapping and digital terrain modelling using drone-based LiDAR and photogrammetry to support municipal planning, infrastructure design, asset management, and future capital projects across the community.

As ISL continues to grow across Vancouver Island, our focus remains the same: providing practical, collaborative solutions backed by local knowledge and the strength of a multidisciplinary team. We are excited to deepen our partnerships in the Comox and Strathcona Valleys and look forward to contributing to the continued success of the region.
