Prairie Icon to Classroom: Reclaimed Mass Timber in a Learning Environment
Blackfoot Ballroom B
Time: 09:50 am – 10:50 am
Saskatchewan has a long history of building with mass timber. At misiwe-kisik | One Sky PK-8 School in Saskatoon, that history is finding new life. Reclaimed structural wood was used at a large scale throughout the new school, and this session looks at how it came together.
ISL’s David Wing, M.Eng., P.Eng. and Bertrand Bartake from Kindrachuk Agrey Architecture will walk through how the team worked with reclaimed wood within a building code framework and how existing research on nail-laminated timber (NLT) shaped the approach. They’ll also share how mass timber helped create a school that inspires students and educators, promotes sustainability and contributes to reconciliation.
